The Randbøldal Museum
A historic activity and visitor centre for craft and water.
The Randbøldal-Museet is situated on an old factory site in the beautiful area of Randbøldal. Here the Engelsholm estate started its paper mill in 1732. The production was altered in 1847 to producing yarn and cloth. In 1973 the factory closed down, and demolished in 1984. The storehouse, built in 1918, is all that is left. Here is the museum situated, after total renovation in 2002.
The old factory sight is dominated by water, not just from The Vejle River (Steam), but also from all the wells in the area, and it is this water that as in the old days brings life to the area. A large outdoor water experience is under construction, where you will be able to learn about the wonders of water, how to tame it and how to use its power, by sending it through various mills and locks.
Play and craftsmanship is put in focus to give a great esperience across the generations and to give an understanding of history in the area. It is a real hands on interactive experience, when through play you can experiment with water, or learn how to make paper, yarn, felt, ribbons and cloth in the creative workshops. On a regular bases it will be possible to meet artists and craftsmen working in or around the house. On the museums large first floor various exhibitions will take place. The museum shop offers a collection of lokal arts, crafts, books and and gifts for sale.
